Junior League of Sacramento

Sacramento Children's Museum

This is the current signature project of the Junior League of Sacramento (JLS). Formed in 2006, this committee is currently entering our third year of involvement with the Sacramento Children's Museum (SCM) project.

The Sacramento Children's Museum will focus on activities for children ages 0 to 8 years old. It will provide the Sacramento region with a world-class, play-based environment where childhood is nurtured, respected, and celebrated. The JLS is working closely with the Sacramento Children's Museum to ensure the needs of children-at-risk are remembered and addressed. We are thrilled to be involved with such an important effort.

Our first year focused on assisting with the site selection process, supporting public events, assisting with strategic planning efforts, assisting with exhibit research, and planning and formalizing our relationship and commitment to the museum.

In our second year, the committee assisted in helping the phase-one museum take shape, further solidifying the partnership between JLS and SCM.  The 2007-2008 year was spent assisting the SCM with prospective site identification.  To identify the types of exhibits that would be best for the SCM, the committee completed a research project for the SCM Board of Directors that involved interviewing professionals in the community who specialize in working with children at risk to ensure that the exhibits chosen for the museum target the appropriate population and age-group interests. The committee also completed a letter writing campaign to over 2,000 community members to announce the partnership between JLS and SCM.  The committee also participated in community events on behalf of SCM, including the North Highlands Jubilee in the fall, and Family Fun Fest in the spring.

As we begin our 2008-2009 year, we are thrilled to have a committee of 13 dedicated women focusing solely on the Sacramento Children's Museum project.  Working closely with the Sacramento Children's Museum board in the areas of programs and exhibits, fund development, site selection and building, and public relations and marketing, the committee's goal is to provide the strategic and hands-on support necessary to turn the Sacramento Children's Museum vision into reality.
