Transferring Out From the Junior League of Sacramento

We're sorry to see you go and wish you the best of luck in your new home! If you're moving out of the Sacramento area and would like to transfer to another League, please follow these steps:

Ensure You're In Good-Standing

Before you transfer to a new League, you must be in good-standing with The Junior League of Sacramento. Ensure that your dues have been paid for the current year and that all outstanding obligations have been met. If you submit your transfer request after March 1st, you must pay your JLS dues for the next League year. Once your transfer has been completed, you may be eligible for a full or partial refund.
If you've resigned or if you've been dropped from The Junior League of Sacramento and would like to transfer to another League, you must first reinstate your membership with The Junior League of Sacramento. To start the reinstatement process, please contact the JLS office at (916) 921-1096 or our Corresponding Secretary. Simply let us know that you'd like to reinstate your membership and provide us with your current contact information, the approximate date you left the League, and your AJLI member number (if available).

Determine Your New League

Please visit the Association of Junior Leagues, International (AJLI) web page to determine the most appropriate League in your new area. You can use the "Locate a League" function on the AJLI web page. You may also click on the "Members Area" for much more extensive information on each League in the "Junior League Contact Directory" (you are required to log in to use the members-only functions).

Respond Quickly When Contacted By Your New League

AJLI has developed a new electronic transfer system and the whole process has been dramatically improved! You'll hear from your new League shortly after we've notified them of your intent to transfer. PLEASE RESPOND QUICKLY to all communications from your new League! If you fail to respond quickly you may miss important deadlines for placements and education classes.

IT IS VITALLY IMPORTANT THAT BOTH YOUR NEW LEAGUE AND THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF SACRAMENTO HAVE YOUR MOST UP-TO-DATE CONTACT INFORMATION! If your address, telephone numbers, or email address changes, please notify your new League and the Junior League of Sacramento as soon as possible.

Please note that once The Junior League of Sacramento enters your transfer request into the AJLI system, you will officially be a member of your new League. You must respond to all communications from your new League, submit any required forms, and pay any required fees (dues, transfer fee, etc.) to complete your transfer. If you don't complete all the required steps your membership could be dropped... avoid this by completing all transfer requirements on a timely basis.

Transferring Into the Junior League of Sacramento

If you're moving to the Sacramento area and are interested in joining The Junior League of Sacramento, we'd love to have you! JLS cordially welcomes Association of Junior League International members transferring to Sacramento from Leagues around the world. Thank you for partnering with us by providing your volunteer time and effort.

The transfer program is an important part of our league. We will often receive a number of transfers from all over the country in any given year. Because of this, we do our best to allow those transfers to meet with each other and work towards getting to know our league.
We would like you to get involved as soon as you would like to. If your transfer is in progress, we would like to go ahead and get you involved in our programs so that you can develop those important friendships with other transfers. So, please contact us as soon as you get to town.

How to Transfer

- To transfer to The Junior League of Sacramento You must notify your CURRENT League. The procedure varies by League so check the League's website, your membership directory, or contact the Corresponding Secretary for guidance. Be sure to give them your current contact information: address, phone number and email address. They will confirm if you are in good standing to qualify for transfer. If you are not in good standing, you’ll need to work with them on how to get your status back on track.

- Your League will notify the Junior League of Sacramento of your intent to transfer and will send us an approved transfer through AJLI.

- If you are due a refund from your previous League, please work with them to arrange for the refund. Each League is independent and there is no way to transfer funds between Leagues. You may owe dues to JLS even if you’ve paid dues to your previous league.
Please Note: The "League year" for all Junior Leagues runs from June 1st through May 31st.

What to Expect After Your Transfer is Complete

In order to make your transfer into the JLS as informative and fulfilling as possible we offer a Transfer Education Program to incoming Active members twice each League year. This is a wonderful opportunity to join with other Active Transfers in a structured program to learn about Sacramento and the JLS’s impact on the city. A member of the Transfer Committee will contact you about the upcoming Transfer Course. Transfers will be assigned a Buddy who will guide the Transfers through their transfer period. Buddies will contact Transfers to welcome them into the Junior League of Sacramento.
Membership Obligations
Provisional transfers will complete the current or subsequent provisional course depending upon their time of transfer to the league. Active transfers begin placement requirements upon completion of the transfer process. Members transferring into the Junior League of Sacramento will be responsible for completing their obligations based on when they transferred. There are no deadlines for Sustaining transfers. Once your transfer is complete, you'll be eligible to join the Sustainer group. You will be welcome to attend all meetings, participate in all events, and you'll receive all League communications.

Active Transfer Program Components

Although the Transfer program is optional, Transfers are urged to participate in the Transfer Program before selecting and volunteering in their Active placement to afford them a better understanding of our League, membership requirements, and engage in social activities to meet other Transfers and JLS members.

-  Education/Training (2 Trainings) 
-  Bus Tour (1 tour)

Socials

Transfers will have the opportunity to get to know other transfers and active members through a monthly social event hosted by the transfer committee. These events take place at many local hotspots around Sacramento, and occasionally hosted in some of our members’ homes.

Education/Training

Transfers will choose one Training to attend (Fall or Spring). All Transfers are strongly encouraged to attend these education meetings.
The purpose of the Training is to learn about the JLS, including our community programs and fundraisers, the needs of the greater Sacramento community, community programs, and fundraisers.

Bus Tour

The transfers are able to join the provisional members on the bus tour, where you will visit various JLS placements, learn about those organizations, the volunteer opportunities available through the organizations, and the impact JLS has on the Sacramento community through its partnership with those organizations. The Bus Tour takes place in the fall, and we strongly encourage transfers to attend.
